Trafalgar: el viaje con Galdós

Finished
    Information

From 16 October 2020 to 7 February 2021, the History Museum will be hosting the exhibition entitled Trafalgar: el viaje con Galdós, a pictorial artistic project by the artist Daniel Parra that offers a modern retelling of the famous battle of Trafalgar and its relationship with the novel Episodios Nacionales I. Trafalgar by Benito Pérez Galdós.

This exhibition is one of the activities organised to commemorate the centenary of the writer's death. It includes forty pictorial works based around the bloodiest and most decisive naval battle in the history of Spain. A unique visual account that uses a variety of artistic techniques to reflect the cruelty and humanity of war.

Daniel Parra uses different techniques, from charcoal to acrylics, oils, and gouache, to search for the essence of action, fear, courage, or movement, portrayed by Perez Galdós in the first instalment of his Episodios Nacionales novels through his character Gabriel de Araceli. This creates a story on the walls as a kind of narrative frieze through which the cruelty and humanity of war are reflected.
