Welcome to Madrid
The well-known Mexican tenor, Javier Camarena, is giving a concert on July 12 at the Teatro Real accompanied by the Granada City Orchestra conducted by Iván López-Reynoso, in which he will perform the most important arias and scenes from Donizetti, Verdi and Massenet, among others.
Born in Xalapa (Mexico) in 1976, Javier Camarena fell in love with opera in a country in which there is little room for genres other than corridos and boleros. He decided to drop out of his degree in electrical engineering and devote himself to song, so he enrolled in the Faculty of Music at Veracruzana University, completing his studies at the Guanajuato University Music School.
Camarena gradually became known and made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York (United States) in 2011, in the role of Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville. Since then, he has become an icon on this stage, with several encores and major international performances.
His voice is that of a light lyrical tenor. Furthermore, Camarena has specialised in opera belcanto, or in other words, in the compositions of Gaetano Donizetti, Gioacchino Rossini, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and some works by Giuseppe Verdi.
He has two live albums: Recitales, released in 2014 accompanied by the pianist, Ángel Rodríguez and it includes popular Italian and Mexican songs, and Serenata, released in 2015 with popular Mexican music and the participation of the singer-songwriter, Armando Manzanero.
