Welcome to Madrid
More than a hundred photographs and objects by the master of surrealism, belonging to different European private collections are exclusively brought together in this exhibition that takes us on a journey through the dreamlike world of the artist Man Ray.
Man Ray, pseudonym of Emmanuel Radnitzky (Philadelphia, USA, 1890 – 1976, Paris, France), was a modern American artist who spent most of his career in Paris. He was an important contibutor to Dadaist and Surrealist movements and is famous for his avant garde photographs and his portraits.
This exhibition not only surprises you with the photographs, like the one of the French model Alice Prin, also known as Kiki de Montparnasse, with an ebony mask, that makes you feel as if the two figures are sharing the dream; but also with the objects that are half way between memories, dreams and desires.
It is a perfect opportunity to get lost in the artist’s world with other iconic pieces like his famous rayographs, disturbing mannequins or “poetic devices” that reflect the close relationship and understanding between the artist and his friend Marcel Duchamp who were often accompanied by the great Dalí.
