The godfather of the romantic ballad in Spain, Raphael is one of the greatest artists in the history of Spanish music. With over 50 million records sold and more than 50 albums to his name, the success and legacy of the artist known as the “Nightingale of Linares” is unparalleled. On 16 December 2023, he is returning to the WiZink Center with a new tour to present his latest album, entitled Victoria.
The artist is returning to the stage in 2023 to perform tracks from his new album Victoria, written and produced by the musician Pablo López. The record is as fresh as it is captivating, and features 11 songs, including De tanta gente, Por si acaso and A punto de besarte. In addition to these new tracks, on his new tour, Raphael will also be performing some of his greatest hits, such as Mi Gran Noche and Yo soy aquél, which have become cornerstones in the collective musical memory of Spain.
Recently, to celebrate his 60-year career, the artist recorded a very special duet album alongside great artists such as Manuel Carrasco, Luis Fonsi, Vanesa Martín and Pablo López, among others, covering some of the most emblematic songs in Spanish music, along with two previously unreleased songs composed and performed with Pablo López and Natalia Lafourcade. In addition, he has recorded a documentary series, entitled Raphaelismo.
Although he was born in Jaén, Miguel Rafael Martos Sánchez - Raphael - moved to Madrid when he was four years old. At the age of just nine, he won the prize for the best children's voice in Europe at the Salzburg Festival. However, his professional career began when he won first prize at the Benidorm Festival in 1962.
The 60s were an important decade in Raphael's career, when he released some of his greatest classics such as Yo Soy Aquel, Digan lo que digan, and Mi Gran Noche, songs which he has also re-released on his latest album. During this period, he also represented Spain twice at Eurovision. In 1982, after only twenty years in the business, Raphael received the Uranium Disc for 50 million albums sold, a milestone only achieved by Michael Jackson and Queen at the time.
