Welcome to Madrid
Hotel Urban opened in October 2004, in the heart of the political, cultural, financial and shopping district, and very close to Puerta del Sol. Designed by architects Carles Bassò and Mariano Martitegui, the building is noteworthy both for its cutting-edge architectural design and the collection of priceless works of modern art it houses.
Interior designer Mérce Borrel, who worked in the hotel alongside Jordi, says: “the hotel originally took its inspiration from the Art Deco movement, combining the spirit of the past with more modern tendencies”. Built with the very best materials (fine woods and marble), the walls have been painted with bright colours in order to give the hotel a bright and luminous air. Borrel is keen to highlight one of the more innovative features, a sophisticated lighting system in the bedrooms that gives guests “a variety of options depending on their needs and the time of day”.
In addition, the bedrooms, corridors and public areas are an amazing art gallery containing late 19th century and early 20th century works from Papua New Guinea, the Museum of Egyptian Art and various oriental pieces. In summer it’s also possible to enjoy the outdoor swimming pool, with spectacular views over Madrid’s rooftops by day or by night.
The hotel’s culinary offering includes the restaurant Cebo and the bar Glass by Sips. Cebo, which held a Michelin star from 2018 to 2022, offers modern dishes with a Mediterranean flair and focuses heavily on local food. Glass by Sips, a stunning bar with large windows, boasts a fabulous selection of cocktails designed by acclaimed bartenders Simone Caporale and Marc Álvarez, from Sips Barcelona.
