As part of its commitment to finding unusual and unique buildings for their premises in every city, the AC hotel chain has refurbished a former early 20th-century palace, a National Heritage site, turning it into a five-star hotel. Located within the Golden Triangle of Art formed by the Prado, the Reina Sofía and the Thyssen-Bornemisza museums, the AC Palacio del Retiro hotel also boasts magnificent views over this famous park. But its privileged location is by no means its sole appeal. The classical style of its façade contrasts with the sleek contemporary decor found inside. As they enter the hotel, guests can admire the very latest in new decorative elements and art objects.

Built in concrete, horizontal wrought iron girders and carved wood, the materials and architectural elements in this four-storey building have been preserved as much as possible. According to Lorenzo Marqués, the architect responsible for the interior design of the hotel, it was designed with a minimalist idea in mind, searching for a balance between a traditional building and the latest interior design trends.
