Welcome to Madrid

Mariano Fortuny and Marsal (Reus, 1838 – Roma, 1874) is the main feature of a retrospective of his work. The exhibition will consist of the artist’s contributions as a painter, watercolourist, drawer and printer, paying special attention to the influence of the great maestros who were able to study at the Prado.

Fortuny is considered to be one of the great maestros of 19th century Spanish painting, one of the Spanish artists who has been internationally appreciated today and is valued as a leading figure in Spanish art of all times.

In addition to some of his most noteworthy works, a section will be devoted to his studio, which housed a collection of antiquities, some of which are kept in the most important museums worldwide, showing his interest in observation detained on precious objects and explain the refinement in capturing the quality, colour and light in his own artistic creations.
