400th Anniversary of Madrid's Plaza Mayor
Information
Special program created to commemorate the 4th Centenary of Plaza Mayor comes to an end on the weekend of 15 to 17 of February the same way it started two years ago: with a spectacular video mapping that takes you on an audiovisual journey through the 400 years of history of Madrid’s famous square.
Simultaneous projection on all four sides of the square (the biggest in Spain until now, and that brought together 24,000 people in 2017) is the climax of a two-year long program that included numerous artistic disciplines, created iconic images of Madrid (lawn-covered Plaza Mayor, monumental floating sculpture Madrid 1.8, Baroque Festival, Publisher and Bookstore Fair...).
The spectacular video mapping takes you on a journey through 400 years of history of Plaza Mayor. It is a journey that will surprise you with the quality of images and sound, with a score by the composer Ruben Kielmannsegge featuring touches of baroque, epic music and film orchestras.
The four sides of the square bring back special moments in history: when there was a small pond where the kings hunted ducks, the savage executions, the anguish of the fires or the poster for its reconstruction in the late 1700s. More than 24,000 people have lived this 18-minute experience that fuses emotion, history and show.
The project received numerous awards like the first prize for the Best Cultural Event at the B.E.A. World (Best Events Award) 2017 and the first prize for the Best 360º Audiovisual at the Visual Artist Awards 2018.
