Medieval Train to Sigüenza
In addition to an extensive rail network, Madrid also offers a special Medieval Train service that not only transports you to the enchanting city of Sigüenza but also sends you on a journey through time to the Middle Ages of the troubadours.
All Aboard!
Once you step on to the train, don’t be surprised if you lose all sense of time and direction. During the ride from Madrid Chamartín to Sigüenza, which takes just an hour and twenty minutes, you’ll be accompanied by jolly troubadours and heroic knights who use music and theatre to tell you about the history of the villages and towns that you pass by on your trip. And make sure your breakfast isn’t too big that morning because you’ll want to leave space for the delicious sweets and pastries that are served on the train!
Next stop: Sigüenza
Once you arrive, you will be giving a guided tour of the city’s main landmarks, including the Plaza Mayor, Romanesque churches, Plaza del Doncel, the castle's Patio de Armas and the medieval city. You will have around 8 hours till your return train, giving you enough time to get to know the city and try some traditional fare such as migas (fried breadcrumbs with minced meat and vegetables), sopa castellana (Castilian garlic soup), asado de cabrito (roast kid goat), and the Yemas del Doncel (a dessert made from sweetened egg yolk). And be sure to keep an eye out, because a lot of restaurants offer 10% discounts on their a-la-carte menu if you show them your Medieval Train ticket. After lunch, you will have some time to stroll around the city at your leisure and discover other landmarks like the Cathedral, before boarding the train and heading back to Madrid.
