Big Mama Ballroom
Information
This hall in the Palos de Moguer neighbourhood of Arganzuela has brought the golden age of North American swing to the centre of Madrid since 2015. The hall was originally devoted exclusively to swing and blues, whereby it was a pioneer in the city and unique in Europe due to its exceptional characteristics. However, since reopening after the pandemic in spring 2021, it has become a jazz club and concert hall where live music of a wider variety of styles can be enjoyed.
Since its beginnings, hundreds of concerts have been programmed with first rate national and international bands of diverse genres, so now it is the main catalyst of swing with live music in Madrid. It has also hosted festivals and international events, being visited by thousands of people from different nationalities, as well as amateur and professional dancers from Madrid and the surrounding area.
The hall is adjacent to the Big Mama Swing dance hall, where fans of vintage dance can learn the different disciplines related to the golden age of swing and jazz between the 1920s and 1950s in the United States: Lindy Hop, Balboa, Charleston, Blues and Jazz Steps.
