The most extravagant Madrid
Are you fed up of going to conventional restaurants and discos? Do you feel like enjoying a different evening and entering more bizarre atmospheres? We recommend a series of establishments in which the “kitsch” style rules. You can also have fun and enjoy yourself in a more uninhibited way there.
Uñas Chung Lee, the trendy disco
“The best nails are those that are painted at three o’clock in the morning”. At least, this is what Chung Lee says, which gives its name to one of the trendiest discos in Madrid. It is at number 38, Calle Hilarión Eslava, in the Moncloa district. Here, you can embark on a journey to Asia in a single night at a disco that invites its clients to spend a night of madness. It has a “nail spa” with a manicure service and fluorescent make-up. It has shows inspired by the Far East. It has a Korean karaoke. It has two Manicure Experience areas and many more surprises. Are you going to miss it?
Medias Puri, a clandestine establishment
This clandestine establishment with a capacity for 1,000 people is located at Number 1 Plaza de Tirso de Molina (promoted by Lets Go, the theatre production company that also runs Uñas Chung Lee) and is all the rage on the Madrid night scene. It has three dance floors: the Central Room with live shows and sessions with resident DJs; the Black Room, with 1980s disco music, and the Apotheke, a room with many surprises.
It is open on Fridays, Saturdays and eves of bank holidays. Get your body ready to dance to salsa, techno, rock indie music … with your best “look”. You can buy the tights from Puri. Would you rather watch the show than dance? Pay attention, because the show is directed by none other than Chevi Muraday, National Dance Award 2006. And the costumes are by Felype de Lima, Max Award 2015 for the Best Costume Design.
Mauna Loa, Hawaiian “volcanoes”
This is one of the classic establishments of Madrid’s nightlife. It has been all the rage for 45 years and continues to attract the attention of a fixed clientele which is renewed from generation to generation. What is its most attractive product? The Hawaiian style cocktails served in volcanoes, which are shared by several people. By the way, these volcanoes emit smoke. There are also other cocktails and you are even offered something to eat whilst enjoying these unique beverages, regardless of whether they taste of pineapple or coconut. This is an authentic, curious and emblematic establishment in Madrid. It has three floors decorated in a tropical style and it is located at Number 13, Plaza de Santa Ana.
Bora Bora, tropical cocktails
This is another classic cocktail bar whose fame has been passed down from generation to generation. Its beverages have all kinds of flavours and are served in extremely original, almost artistic ceramic containers. Rum, vodka or gin are mixed with fruit juices and strange liquors and are served stylishly. They are not usually laden with alcohol, so their fruity flavour comes through. Alcohol-free beverages are also served, which are ideal for those coming by car. The drinks are always accompanied with some aperitifs or dried fruits. In the decor, a small flow of water stands out that comes down the stairs. Clients sit on wicker chairs and, as the establishment is spacious, it is not difficult to find a table. It is located at Number 5 Calle de Ventura Rodríguez.
Bar Vader, passion for comics and videogames
It is necessary to leave the urban centre of Madrid to get to Bar-Ludoteca Vader. It is in Plaza de las Estalactitas in Getafe (Sector 3), but it is well worth the trip, because, in addition to being decorated with characters from videogames and series, you can spend an enjoyable time playing a board game whilst having a drink. You will come across ninjas and heroes from the galaxies. And there is a pinball machine and an electronic dartboard. It is open from Thursday to Sunday and the prices are extremely competitive. This establishment is popular with those who are mad about videogames and television series.
Nômâda Madrid, a jaima in the heart of Madrid
In the neighbourhood of Salamanca, specifically at No. 41 Serrano, you’ll find Nômâda Madrid, a restaurant that serves Arabic-Mediterranean dishes with Andalusian inspiration, as well as classic and signature cocktails. A place filled with magic, exoticism, and fantasy that includes dinner with music shows.
Latigazo, Nikkei cuisine with live entertainment
At No. 28, Calle de las Infantas is a restaurant that fuses intense flavours and unique experiences: Latigazo. Inspired by Dubai's dinner shows , this venue offers signature Nikkei cuisine created by chef Jorge Rodríguez: a gastronomic fusion of Peruvian and Japanese dishes. It also serves signature cocktails mixed to perfection by Alexis Cárdenas. And this whole experience is further elevated by live DJ sets and music.
