Puerta América

    Information

As well as being a grand luxury hotel and an icon of modernity, Puerta de América is a meeting point where different cultures and ways of understanding architecture and design come together.

Inaugurated in 2006, the building had nineteen of the best architecture and design studios from thirteen different countries participating in the design. The project entailed playing with different materials, colours and shapes in order to create unique spaces which encompass the best of avant-garde design and architecture, and where all artists have had complete creative freedom.

The idea was to create a unique hotel reflecting different perspectives on architecture, design and art, and a series of great names were commissioned to achieve this, including Jean Nouvel, who is also responsible for the top floor and the colourful façade, Javier Mariscal and Fernando Salas, Richard Gluckman, Victorio & Lucchino, Norman Foster and Zaha Hadid. The result is an original, innovative and luxurious hotel, experimental and eclectic, where guests can discover a different creative universe with each visit.
